Troop 72 was formed as one of the first troops for girls in what used to be called the Boy Scouts. In February, 2019, the Boy Scouts became the Scouts BSA and allowed troops for girls to form. Troops remain single-gender. Girls ages 11 through 17 are welcome to join our adventures.
In the Scouts BSA, girls do all the same things as boys, and earn ranks up to Eagle Scout. Our own troop has two Eagles and several more on the way.
We like to think that by helping the girls learn leadership skills and all the "Scout skills" like knots and first aid and camping and canoeing and climbing, et cetera, that we are helping to turn out truly empowered girls, who don't have to 'think they can' - but instead 'know they can.'
Our troop meets on Monday nights, during the school year, at 7 PM at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Westlake Hills (see map below). We camp one weekend a month during the school year, and then have various summer camps and High Adventure camps in the summer.
